Can I get a sample or evaluation unit before placing a bulk order?
Yes. Once we capture your requirements via the Customer Parameters Request Form, we provide samples or evaluation units so you can validate fit and performance before committing to volume.
How does the charger communicate with my BMS?
Over CAN (2.0B / J1939), the charger and your BMS exchange target voltage and current, state-of-charge, temperature and fault status in real time. We tailor the message map, handshake and fault handling to your BMS for seamless integration.
Which communication protocols do your products support?
Chargers: CAN 2.0B / J1939, RS485, and charge-control signals. Controllers and EVSE: CCS (DIN 70121 / ISO 15118), CHAdeMO (IEC 61851-25 / IS 17017-25), GB/T, and OCPP for networked charging.
Do the chargers derate at high ambient temperature?
Our chargers are rated for −25 °C to +65 °C, with forced-air cooling and IP67 sealing. Above the rated ambient, output is intelligently derated to keep the unit and battery within safe limits, then recovers automatically as temperature drops.
Can charger firmware be updated in the field?
Yes. Firmware — including charging profiles and CAN behaviour — can be updated via CAN Tool / service tool / OTA Tool where supported, so units can be re-configured or improved after deployment.
What is the LEV DC Fast Charger (IEC 61851-25)?

EV charging — explained
What is an onboard charger (OBC)?
An onboard charger (OBC) is a power converter built into an electric vehicle that turns AC mains power into the DC current that charges the battery — so the charger travels on board with the vehicle. OBCs are typically 1–11 kW, CAN/J1939-controlled and IP67-sealed for vibration and weather. Solterra builds OBCs for light electric vehicles (LEVs), commercial EVs and off-highway machines.
What is an offboard charger?
An offboard charger (off-board, or DC fast charger) is a stationary unit at a charging station or depot that converts AC to DC outside the vehicle and feeds DC straight to the battery. Because it sits off the vehicle it can be far higher power (tens of kW and up). Solterra power modules are the building blocks of offboard chargers, battery-swapping stations and depot charging.
Onboard vs offboard charger — what is the difference?
An onboard charger rides inside the vehicle and converts AC to DC on board (convenient, lower-power, slower). An offboard charger is a fixed station that converts power outside the vehicle and delivers DC directly to the battery (higher-power, enables DC fast charging). Most light electric vehicles charge with an onboard or portable charger; public fast-charging uses offboard chargers.
What is a light electric vehicle (LEV)?
A light electric vehicle (LEV) is a small, light EV — electric two- and three-wheelers (e-scooters, e-rickshaws, delivery trikes), e-bikes, forklifts and similar micro-mobility. LEVs are the fastest-growing EV segment in India and Asia and usually run 24–96 V packs, charged by portable or onboard chargers rather than high-voltage DC fast chargers.
How do I choose a portable EV charger?
Match the portable charger to (1) your pack voltage (24–96 V for most LEVs), (2) the AC supply you have (single- or three-phase), (3) the charge speed you need in kW, (4) the chemistry/profile (lithium or lead-acid, CC/CV), and (5) the environment — for field use pick an IP65–IP67 sealed, rugged unit. Solterra portable chargers are IP67-sealed with configurable CC/CV profiles for two- and three-wheelers and light EVs.
What is a DC-DC converter in an EV?
A DC-DC converter steps the high-voltage traction battery down to a stable low-voltage rail (typically 12–13.8 V) that powers auxiliary loads — lights, controllers, sensors and infotainment. Solterra offers isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converter modules with a wide input range and IP67/IP68 sealing for electric vehicles of every size.
What is a power module in EV charging?
A power module is a compact, self-contained AC-to-DC conversion block (rectifier + active PFC + regulated DC output) that stacks to build larger chargers. Several modules combine into a scalable offboard DC fast charger without redesigning each part. Solterra power modules offer active PFC, a wide 200–1000 V output and hot-swap support for fast-charging, battery-swapping and depot infrastructure.
